Dear Linda:
Summary
I really appreciate how well you prepare for the class. You are able to express your thoughts and answer all the activities on your textbook.
Learning is a step by step process so don't feel frustrated with your english. Just do your best and make use of your free time to prepare
and review. Please do not forget what you've learned. Apply it during class.I know you can do it. You've done well so I hope you'll do even
better and improve more for the next couple of weeks.
Speaking
Very good. You can answer my questions and share some information. But, sometimes, I still have to explain some expressions, but it's still okay. You have more time to practice so I know you're going to get better soon.
Listening
Getting better. But you still need to practice more on this part. I suggest you to keep on listening to our recorded file and your interchange CD. For additonal sources, try to watch international news, American movies and listen to English music. I want you to get use to the English language.
Pronunciation
Your English will sound more natural if you pay more attention to vowels. Try to open your mouth and pronounce those vowels loudly. Here are some pronounciations you should practice more:
/au/ /ou/ /o:/
/w/ /v/
plosions(爆破音): /sp/ /st/ /sk/
Vocabulary
Your vocabulary is good. However, sometimes you cannot distinguish some slight differences between different words. For example, “message” and “information” can all mean “信息” in Chinese, but “message” is more like “口信,留言”, and “information” is the same as “消息” in Chinese. So you can say “Can I take a message?”, and “People can provide some useful information on the community forum.” To get a better understanding of English words, you should listen more, read more and speak more authentic English materials.
Grammar
The English language, and especially English grammar, can be confusing. English grammar is a set of rules that seem to change continually, and even the most hardcore grammarian can find himself baffled and shaking his head. While many rules of grammar have remained steady through time, new rules for usage shift regularly. Learning advanced English grammar is a challenge, but there are arrays of excellent tools available to walk you through the process. There’s absolutely an abundance of resources on the net these days.
