Choose the Operation

When you look at a problem, pay close attention to the words. The wording of problems provides clues that help you decide which operation to use.

Read each problem below. Decide if the problem asks you to add, subtract, multiply, or divide. For each problem, click on the drop-down list and choose the correct answer.



1. Eva bought an ice-cream cone for 34¢ and popcorn for 10¢ more. How much did she spend on the popcorn?
2. Javier bought 2 boxes of crackers. Jill bought 3 times as many. How many crackers did Jill buy?

One page in a baseball card album holds 15 cards. Oman has 60 baseball cards. How many pages of the album can he fill?

3. Jim bought a model airplane that cost $2.00. He bought a deck of cards for 50¢ less.How much did the deck of cards cost?
4. Tom packed 12 shirts for a trip. He put them into 3 suitcases. There are an equal number of shirts in each suitcase. How many shirts are in each?
5. Sonia has 20 stickers. She wants to share the stickers with 5 friends. How many stickers will each friend get?
