You can increase the force you apply by using a lever.
This simple machine needs a fulcrum. A fulcrum
is a fixed point around which the lever turns.
You can apply a small force to do a big job if you place
the fulcrum carefully. A pair of scissors is an example of a lever. The
screw that holds the two blades of the scissors together is the fulcrum.
It allows the blades to rotate and work together.
